And the Queen Mary School
Is completing 150 years!
On the 30th of January 2004, I ( Vimlu Khiani , my maiden/school name) was invited as Chief Guest to an Investiture Ceremony at my school, ‘Queen Mary’ in Bombay. What is ‘Investiture’? I also had to look up the dictionary…Just a second while I do so again…Investiture means: a formal investing of a person with authority, power, right, office or dignity… In the school, it meant that the outgoing office bearers were handing the torch of ‘knowledge, courage and confidence to their successors.
What a beautiful ceremony and the credit to make it so awesome goes to the Present Principal, Mrs I. Aarons. I was expected to give a short speech to the students. I was choked with emotion as I did. I told them about how, the then Principal, Ms Lambert was reluctant to grant me admission in the 8th Std, as my knowledge of English was of the ‘Noddy Book level’. (I was in Spain before that) I begged for a chance, and said that if I did not perform well, I would repeat the class then (but not to place me in a lower class now) I put in my best efforts, and came 5th in Hindi, a language, I barely knew.
The point I wanted to make, was that everything is possible, if one works hard and perseveres… If at that time, someone would have told me, that I would author books and lecture, I would have dismissed the thought as ‘wishful thinking’ with a grimace. But I did…I have authored 14 books.
At a point in my life, I had so much to say, that I wanted a column in a magazine or leading newspaper…I did not get it…but I sat behind my computer and started typing what I thought, and sent it to a few friends. The notes were forwarded, and my widely read notes on : Dal-sabzi for the Aatman’ was born. About 20 years ago, I had wanted to spread spirituality to schools. I failed. The reason: Because India is a secular country and they did not want to speak about religions. I protested. Why can’t we speak about the what all religions teach, like love, compassion, brotherhood…My plea fell on deaf ears.
So many years later, my book ‘Dadi Nani ki Kahaani’ was released by the Deputy Prime Minister Shree L.K. Advani and has been approved for reading in the Prayer Assembly Meetings in Schools. Again my desire was fulfilled! I know that God says: Yes! Sometimes, He says: Wait! If I find it hard to have patience, I implore Him, to carry me! Like a child who has to walk a long distance and gets tired!
To the new captains of school and Leaders of tomorrow’s world, I said:
Learn to agree to disagree
TRUTH PREVAILS If you are a true leader, your eyes will light up, when confronted with a challenge.
A person who doesn’t feel the thrill of challenge is not a potential leader.
A willingness to take responsibility
No one can lead without being criticized or without facing discouragement
It’s tough enough to succeed when everybody wants you to succeed. People who don’t want you to succeed are like weights in your running shoes. But practice to run anyway.
Those who like you will work for you, those who don’t will work against you.
It isn’t important that people like you. It’s important that they respect you. They may like you but not follow you. If they respect you, they’ll follow you, even if perhaps they don’t like you.” Apply to yourself, what you advise others to do. Even if you lose, do so graciously. Say sorry, It is saying that you are smarter today. YOU are the Leaders of tomorrow. Learn and teach to co-exist. Become co-leaders in the Movement for Peace and Prosperity.
Sincerely,
Shakun
SHARING 2
I was informed that talking about miracles in life was not encouraged …but my guru’s guru encouraged my guru to share for the benefit of some who may believe and may be on the path… so i believe in sharing…
So here goes one of my experiences:
Let me narrate to you how I was unmistakably protected again by The Lord.
I was returning from a party with a few friends and I was wearing some of
my choicest jewels. We were on a deserted road when the car was
suddenly surrounded by goons who had nothing good on their mind.
There is little we could do except lock the doors to buy some extra
time…suddenly i shouted: ‘Leave us alone !’ And they retreated much to
our amazement! Who was it who shouted through me? I couldn’t have
been the source of their fear! I look nothing like Madam Dracula or
Superwoman! Who could it be except Hanuman or Krishna? Or God who you may call by any name you may have faith in?

And Jyoti Udeshi shares her experience, where she experienced the ‘hand of God’
She writes : Post my separation from my husband, I returned back to India with no experience in any ground job. As I was an air hostess prior.
I remember looking out for jobs and someone referred me to a vacancy in Citibank and meet this person. Ofcourse I was denied that job and was told arrogantly that I will never ever get a job in a bank, though I was willing to learn. In my mind I told myself one day I will be a banker God willing, after the way I was ridiculed by that gentleman
Later I was working for a travel agency which was a part of Oberoi hotels and their unspoken rule was that we could not be hired in the hotel itself. But withing a year I was offered a job in sales and marketing by the senior vice president who saw me in mercury travels.
American Express Bank was my client and within a year I was offered a job by them. Though I was honest I had no knowledge or experience in banking they insisted I join them. The rest is history. I was a banker for 16 years. So I do believe it was God who led me there, it was His hand.

A reader shares: Once I was stranded with my small children ( many years back) at the station. Yes decided to take them by train for an experience by Rajdhani, a very good train to Baroda which is only 4.30 hours from Mumbai to Baroda . My sister lives there..
I was a bit nervous initially so gave my seat number to my bro in law as train hardly stops 3-4 min .
Anyways started the journey on time but at 7 pm they announced major accident ahead !They informed that the train could not go further, and we all had to get down!
No mobile those days!
I nearly died!!
What are the odds of the train to stop midway…
All nervous but just kept praying to my bestest guide n helper .. my Guru pls guide me n sail me thru ..
walked about 30 min can’t exactly remember on tracks and reached a platform…
I was completely lost .
Looking here there where to go.
All of a sudden I hear someone calling my pet name.
The person called loud enough a couple of times I was hesitant to say that’s me
But when he continued I asked who he was snd he first asked snd I acknowledged ..
My bro in law was tracking the train and got to know that there was an accident he …arranged this guy to pick me and make me wait in the officers office.
Meanwhile my bro in law left by car reached around 3 am
And we drove back!!
So when we are in trouble He is always there to rescue!
Faith builds up more and more!
Always always tell this as a miracle ..
however didi there are sooooo many more !!!
Gratitude always 🙏
I , Shakun add: When in fear , confused lost, call upon the Lord! 🙏

Do you know why prayer is so powerful? Because you are in a state of surrender ! You have no control over the situation ! You are saying : God there is nothing more that I can do…
And that true humility, gives rise to what we call miracles or strange coincidences!
8
And a reader, Viveeta shares :
I had an experience of a robber breaking into our home in Africa and I was so terrified that I just pretended to be asleep let him take what he wanted and leave . I was so grateful that nothing happened to any of us 🙏
And I say :
And in this incident , I see first fear , and then action ( in this case pretended to be asleep) , then ‘protection ‘ and then, her prayer as ‘gratitude’ that nothing happened to them …
And I say:
Did you know that if you practice faith and gratitude , it is an open door to protection and miracles … also never forget that each experience makes one stronger… each experience is a lesson to be learnt …
Don’t , ask life: why is this happening to me , but rather : What is this experience showing me?

Even though so called miracles and almost one in a million coincidences happen in life which could almost be named miracles … I would like to touch upon the ‘Karma theory’ so here :
I share excerpts from an article of mine, that appeared in the midday
newspaper Mumbai:
…Shakun explains how the concept of karma is pertinent in the modern
world. “There are two schools of thought followed by believers. The first
doesn’t believe in free will. I subscribe to the second, she states: “I allow
room for the possibility that our actions, and hence, our destiny, lies in our
hands to an extent.”Shakun is of the firm belief that destiny is greatly
affected by actions, prayers and deeds. “The results of your karma can be
categorised into three groups,” says Shakun, who simplifies the definitions
by means of metaphors. “The first is time bound, like a passing virus,”
Shakun explains, adding that in this case, problems would last over a
certain period of time and then disappear almost miraculously once that
duration has passed. This can be seen in cases where relations that have
been strained over lengths of time, suddenly improve.
Shakun compares the second type of results that one’s karam may result
in, to a “bacterial infection.” In this case, she says, “just as medication
would offer relief for an infection, so also would prayers or good deeds
help ease the pain or problems a person is experiencing at the time.”The
third case is more serious, and can be compared to a serious illness; no
amount of prayer may be able to tip the scales in one’s favour. But,
Shakun insists, “As it is impossible to make out which of these three
categories one’s circumstances fall into while experiencing them, one can
hope to find relief for the effects of their past karma, through prayers and
good deeds through their lives.
Shakun adds: “In retrospect however, one can place almost every
experience one has had in life into one of these three categories.”
Shakun has the following to say in
Karma in affairs of the heart: “According to the Gita, it is the intention
behind one’s deeds that separates the good from the bad”
Shakun says that it important to be true to oneself and to strive to keep
from hurting anyone.
So, the only person who can really tell what the intention was behind any
deed, and therefore, distinguish between good and bad deeds, is the
person who commits them. Their heart is the best judge.”
10
There are various other ways to explain Karma, but the above 👆🏼is the one that gives me most solace …Kriyamaan Karma : Current actions or deeds you’re doing now, which will have future consequences or will be balanced eg you are thirsty and drink water ….
Sanchit Karma :
Accumulated karma from past actions, stored up and waiting to be experienced. Prarabdh Karma: Destiny or fate, the portion of Sanchit Karma that’s currently influencing your life.

I, Shakun am very fascinated by quantum physics … and particularly by ‘entanglement ‘
This is a phenomenon observed by physicists where 2 stars separated by million of light years seem to be communicating … even though they are on opposite sides of the Universe!
Have you ever thought of a person , and the person telephones you?
Yes!
Entanglement is a phenomenon in quantum physics where two or more particles become connected in a way that their properties are correlated, regardless of the distance-
This means that entangled particles are somehow “linked” and can affect each other, even if they’re too far apart to communicate.
So read about what one reader friend writes to me :
Hi Shakun, a short synopsis of my miracle.
1990 was a difficult year for me but I always felt my Gurus presence besides me. I was hospitalised for a while and when I came home I was on strong antibiotics which used to make me feel worse.
My guru was visiting New York and that’s where I lived.
I wanted to meet him but was unable to do so.
I was in my balcony wishing that I could be with him…there were tears in my eyes… Just then my telephone bell was ringing in the living room.
When I answered it my joy knew no bounds, it was my guru who called me and said that he too was remembering me. He told me to visit him, I don’t know where my strength came from…but I went to meet him …I have always wondered : How did he hear my voice and see my tears?
And I, Shakun say:
Love and Faith has no limitations ! And that invisible thread is of love and Faith! Think about it !

BALAJI
Tulsi states that in this world,
meet everyone with cheer and without ego,
because you never know in whose form
God has decided to meet you
Who does not wish to have a desire fulfilled?
The fact is that the ‘million to one’ situations, which one may call miracles,
are staring at us in the face in our every day occurrences.
As I have said earlier, I like to write about miracles in my life…increases my
faith…
I had done a ‘mannat’ (promise) that I would climb up the steps and hill
that lead to Balaji, if my wish were to come true. It did.
Making deals with God? Maybe not such a great idea.
But our childish human understanding probably tells us that making a deal
may lure God into fulfilling our desire. I believe that the bargain that we
make increases our faith…and that faith in turn makes the wish come true.
Balaji the temple of Venkateswara is today located at the top of the Seven
hills in Tirumala in the South of India
It stands as a special place, commemorating the marriage between the Lord
Vishnu and Padmavati.
Everyday, a kalyana utsavam celebrates the divine union in a celebration
that stretches to eternity. Even today, during the Brahmotsavam at the
temple, turmeric, kumkum and a sari are sent from the temple to Alamelu
Mangapuram, the abode of Padmavati.
The very rich beautiful temple is famous for granting boons and it is
believed that the vaastu or feng Shui of the temple is extremely powerful
for spiritual worship.
To come back to the story in question, the car dropped me at the foot of the
hill. The only way to go was up. Those days mobiles were non existent! So
there was no way that I could call back the car if I changed my mind to
climb.
I saw big posters asking one to be cautious of pick- pockets and advised one
against speaking with strangers and yet cautioned about going up alone…
I sat confused on the steps of the temple. I saw a few decent looking groups
going up but decided against it, as I am not a fast walker and I would only
delay them.
I met a sweet looking plump woman and asked her if she was planning on
climbing up (I figured that because she was a little on the heavier side, she
would be a slow climber…) but no luck. She said she was not climbing, but
suggested that I ask the temple pujari.
I asked. And he immediately agreed to accompany me.
The priest’s name was Ramchand, and he seemed like a gentle sweet soul. I
told him that I would pay him a certain amount to which he readily agreed.
He was wonderful. He helped me with my water bottle and did not hurry
me. At one point a young boy of 12 joined us. I presumed he was with my
guide. I remember telling myself that I have a Guru in the form of the
pujari and Krishna as the young boy on my pilgrimage.
I reached the summit and paid my guide what I had promised him.
I was so satisfied with my guide’s services that I asked him if he would
accompany me if/when I decided to climb again. The pujari said yes and
that I could ask anyone in the temple as all knew him.
I insisted on a telephone number or address, but he gently refused to give it
to me repeating that everyone in the temple knew his whereabouts and all I
needed to do was ask for him.
When, I next went to Balaji, I went to the temple and asked for Ramchand
the temple pujari.
Everyone there insisted that there had never ever been a pujari by that
name in the temple…

Miracles are great ! But have you heard : ‘God helps those who help themselves? ‘
I am sharing an article I had written quite a while ago which appeared in
the Femina:
No! Life is not a fairytale.
We could believe that it is. Then we will have to wait for some fairy
godmother to materialize, wave her wand and produce custom tailored
gowns and princes for us.
The truth however, is that we have to base our lives on something more
solid than day-dreaming. If we want something from life we must pay for
it in terms of faith, hard work and perseverance.
Robert Schuller in ‘Discover your possibilities’ says: “When faced with a
mountain I will not quit, I will keep on striving until I climb over, find a pass
through, tunnel underneath or simply stay and turn the mountain into a
goldmine.”
I read somewhere that there are two tragedies in life. One is not to get our
heart’s desire and the other one is to get it. No! it is not a misprint. the
tragic part about achieving what we had so much set our hearts upon is
that we are sometimes unaware of the price tag that comes along with the
prize. More often than not it is dearer than we had anticipated.
The above does not mean that we put our dreams to rust in the attic. It
only means that we should first test our dreams, only then must we push
relentlessly towards our goal. We have to rejoice at our best efforts and
make sure not to miss the sunshine, butterflies and breeze on the way.
One has to learn to encounter life with an adventurous spirit that finds
magic in everyday things. Happiness is not a constant emotional fireworks
show. It is contentment and faith that helps to discover God’s plan even
when our dreams do not come true.
Life is a beautiful journey for those who know to traverse the ups and
downs of it.
The journey is inevitable so it would be a tragedy if we did not learn how
to enjoy the trip.

Today I am sharing excerpts from my book : Remembering Ma ( through the pages of my diary )
Ma Indira Devi
Ma has gone Home. Yet the void that she has left in our hearts, is filled by the love that she has bestowed upon us . Her children!
I draw my strength from the promise that she gave to a visitor to Hare Krishna Mandir on 26 March 1996. She said “…I will always be here, you will feel my presence. I promise you that.”
Ma was a mystic. One has to go beyond mind and body to understand such personalities. But to love them is easy.
I loved her and I am certain that she loved me too.
I was acquainted to Ma Indira Devi through her book “Pilgrims of the Stars”. Since then there was a tremendous urge within me to meet her in person. I did, during the month of June 1984. When I arrived at the HareKrishna Mandir, I was told that Ma was resting, hence to return in the evening.
I reached Ma’s place at 6:40 pm. I was told by a disciple that I could go upstairs where Ma was. As I progressed towards her in a queue, she held out her hands towards me, like one would to a long lost loved one and apologised for turning me away in the afternoon as in her own words she said “I need to rest as I am old and sick”. I looked at her and said that she looked neither. She smiled at me.
I was drawn by an irresistible urge to touch her feet. Something that I generally cannot do easily. I held on to her feet and said” I believe that there comes a time in every aspirant’s life when he has to make a choice. But I love my home and I love God”.
She smiled at me and said,” Good. What is there to choose? One leaves home and makes an ashram; leaves ones children and make disciples. God is everywhere and in everyone. You will find Him in your home. There is no need to separate”. She continued “You just feel love and be sincere and that will be your path”.
Spiritual life and experience was not an academic question with Ma . To her, it was the most precious, intimate, sacred and real part of her life. Her search for Him was as essential to her as the air she breathed…
To be continued
19
Ma Indira Devi, my guru, used to say : people want Moksh but when troubles come to teach and elevate us : We pray : Please God remove my troubles … so how will one learn , elevate and get Mukti?
20
Nisha Shahani writes:
When we pray to God we are not asking God to remove our troubles, but to just make it less harsh ..we all know we have been sent here to learn & evolve through trouble times but we just ask God to tide us through these storms with a little grace & mercy …we also don’t forget to thank the Lord for the all that HE has done for us & continue to do so 🙏🙏🙏
And I say : If one makes oneself strong , get strong muscles , while the going is good , the load will not seem so heavy… have you heard : dukh mein sumiran sab karein sukh mein karey na koyee, jo sukh mein sumiran karey , to dukh kahey hoyee!
It does not mean that , troulbles will not come , it just means that they will not seem so heavy … there are 2 more things : I remember being blessed by a sadhu , because he saw me performing an act without looking for benefit … he blessed me by saying : I bless you , I cannot stop the karmas that you will have to go through in your life, but I bless you that they will pass over you like a soft breeze! So perform nishkaam karma , pray!
3rd thing I want to share : i have read / heard that we have so many karmas that we need to go through , but we have chosen the karmas , through which we have to learn our lessons for this life !
I think enough for today 🙏❤️
21
Mani Gandhi states:
Grace of God means that even though you are going through a horrible disease like cancer, you will not feel the full impact of that pain and suffering. As Shakun says it will pass over you like a breeze. That is the absolute truth….. the grace of God is the ultimate blessing for us humans in this world.
Nisha Shahani adds:
I also believe any kind of rejection is actually Gods protection …only some people can fathom that!

And Aasha Chandiramani has posted me a quote which states : When God pushes you to the edge of difficulty , Trust Him! Either He will catch you when you fall, or He will teach you to fly !
And I Shakun, invite you to look back on your life… think of the times when you felt , that you could not handle the situation in your life…and He either held you when you fell, or taught you to fly , meaning he taught you how to handle it, thereby giving you wings to fly… do you know that when Hanuman ji sat dejected before having to cross the ocean to Lanka , it was Jamvant who reminded Hanuman that he could fly… and as you all know He did !!!
23
Has it ever occurred to you that you have chosen the karmas that you will be dealing with during this lifetime?
I am told or I have read, that out of the many karmas that you have to endure during this lifetime, you are given a choice. You are told: Do you want to take some karmas that will be easier on you to learn ? but you feel that you might as well take a load, as anyway Life lasts for an average of 70 or 75 years? And you will be taking some double promotions and finish with your lessons sooner…
You are warned before you take birth, that while you are in another realm these difficult karmas to deal with, do not seem to be such a big deal. Then you are warned again that once you get into the world of Maya, you will forget that you have taken this load out of your own free will. You are advised that may be you should take less loads and spread them over more lifetimes…anyway that’s how you come into the world and of course we do not remember that we have taken that choice ourselves.
🙏
24
We as a cluster soul group, have travelled together for lifetimes , some of the people, we encounter in life, come to help us and some even come to harm us emotionally and sometimes physically , ( because that is part of the contract) but they all help us move forward spiritually , if we care to learn from the experience …
I , Shakun have heard ‘forgive but don’t forget the experience’ Because that experience teaches us a lesson in life . The lesson being that all help us to grow spiritually. Always remember that suffering strengthens you if you care to look at it as an experience to grow.
Hard to believe but true.
25
How many of you are acquainted with quantum physics? A reader has requested me to simplify the notes on quantum physics and share them with you all. When we read our scriptures, they seemed absurd … but I am happy to note that what the physicist have observed , relates so closely to what our Rishis ‘saw’
26
In our scriptures , we have often been told that the saint was found in two places at the same time… seems to be impossible right?
In quantum physics superposition is a fundamental concept where a particle can exist in multiple states or places simultaneously!
Does it blow your mind ? 😊
My idea in simplifying quantum physics for you is so that more faith can be created in what our scriptures state , and not quickly dismissed as absurd !
See , what makes quantum physics difficult to understand is the experiment to arrive at above 👆🏼 conclusion , I am not going to try to explain the experiment , but for those more enthusiastic, you could Google how experiment was done and how the scientist arrived at the above conclusion 😊🙏
PS
Look for ‘superposition in Quantum Physics’ on YouTube or AI , if you care to know more… though I have gone through it… I think , don’t complicate your mind, just know that scientists have reached the above conclusion though complicated experiments!
27
The concept in quantum physics that we shall speak about today, is called ‘the observer effect’ or the ‘Wave effect collapse’
( look up for the experiment if you will)
To explain it in a simple manner :
Particles can behave like waves when unobserved , but when observed they stop behaving live waves and they start behaving like particles !
In my mind , if I compare it to what the sages say, we are told to be aware of our actions … to look within ourselves and ask: ‘Who am I’ …could just watching ourselves, our behaviour , make us become or behave differently? Or find out what in reality we are ! Thus leading us to Enlightenment? Think about it !
