Aum and Tagore

Let us first pay obeisance to the Guru in physical form or the One who resides within us in the form of Brahma Vishnu Mahesh:

GururBramha GururVishnu Gurudevo Maheshrava Gurusaakshaat Param Bramha Tasmai Shri Gurave Namah.

In Indian thought everything ends and begins with Om.

Om kaaram Bindu sanyuktam nityam dhyaanti yoginaha

kaamadam mokshadam chaiva omkaaraaya namo namaha

Which means:

Yogis always meditate on the Om.

Om is the Bindu (dot)

When one meditates on the Om, wishes and realization is  granted.

A friend of mine, R. Salvi, asked me the following question :

Please tell me how the three sounds of AUM have an effect on us. I knew it but have forgotten it. For Example Ah  OO and M when chanted separately have separate effects on our body. Please explain.

Below is my reply and explanation :

The ‘Ah’ emanates from the first chakra, called the Muladhara i.e. the root or base chakra. It is associated with the earth element. People who are still at this level, may not feel the need to grow, yet like the root of the tree, the potentiality is there. The base chakra is the color red and is located at the base of the spine. One can visualize the red of this energy center. It could have a calming influence on whatever one is afraid of. It governs understanding of the physical dimension. Its sound could cure problems connected with the kidneys, spinal column, diseases of the blood… mentally challenged children would find the color ‘red’ beneficial to become more alert as it would improve blood circulation.

Another view point:

Muladhara Chakra is locked by: Fantasy and Imagination

and unlocked by: Accepting reality

Supporting Affirmation:

I have infinite strength and flexibility to overcome all obstacles.

“Ah’ continues upwards to reach the second chakra called the Swadisthana. Its element is water. Its tendency is to flow downward.  It is the color orange and is located in the sexual organs (ovaries in women, and testes in men). It is the chakra that governs and cures attitudes in relationships, sex, reproduction and menopause. It helps in alleviating chronic asthma, rheumatism, bronchitis…

Another view point:

Swadisthana Chakra is blocked by: fear and fear strokes

and unlocked by: Accepting and facing fears.

Supporting Affirmation:

I am blessed with abundance of love and security.

The ‘Ah’ sound slowly turns to the ‘U’ sound. It travels up via the third chakra: The Manipura, also called the Solar Plexus. Its element is fire and is yellow in color. The fire’s movement is upward. It governs the action of the spleen, liver, stomach, diabetes, eczema and gall-bladder. It clears emotional sensitivities. When one meditates on the yellow of the Solar Plexus, one may begin to relax and let go of the need to control. One will start to feel more confident, less critical and will break free from negative ego.

Another view point:

It gets blocked by: extra worry

Gets unblocked by: clarity of thought and constant practice of positive thought.

Supporting Affirmation:

I accept the Divine Plan, people and circumstances as appropriate. I understand the mystery of life.

The ‘U’ sound reaches the fourth chakra, called the Anahata situated in the heart. Its element is air. Its movement is in all directions and hence the potential is unlimited. It is the center through which we feel love. When one meditates upon the color green, the love that flows has the power to heal the entire body. It governs the heart, blood, and circulatory system. Also influences the immune and endocrine systems.

Another view point:

It is blocked by: Need for attention

and unblocked by: Love (generating and giving out)

Supporting Affirmation:

I love and approve of all beings. My heart is full of love and light. I am always healing myself and others.

The ‘M’ comes out as a vibrating note through closed lips. The vibration of the ‘M’ sound goes through the fifth chakra, the Visuddha, (element: ether) continues through the sixth, arrives at the crown of the head, which is the seventh Chakra and and fountains out  and floods one with Physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. The seven colours of the vibgyor, transform into a white brilliant light.

Incidentally, the fifth chakra is the throat chakra and is considered to be the colour blue. If you have problems with expression, communication and judgment, then visualise the colour blue and watch it dissolve all your blockages in that area. It governs lungs, vocal chords, bronchial apparatus and metabolism.

Another view point:

Locked by: jealousy and comparison

Unlocked by: Knowing that you are a unique being.

Supporting Affirmation:

I trust the Universe. I communicate with love. My thoughts, feelings and expression is pure.

The sixth chakra (Agnya)is is located in the center of the forehead. It is popularly known as the third eye. It is observed as the color indigo. The third eye location is popularly considered, as the the spiritual domain. It externalizes as the pituitary gland. It governs the nervous system, ears nose and the left eye.

Another view point:

Locked by: Seriousness, ego, being judgemental

Unlocked by: Simplicity, innocence

Supporting Affirmation

I am transcending darkness and ignorance.

I am blessed with light, knowledge and wisdom. I am calm, relaxed and happy.

The seventh or crown chakra (Sahasraara) is located at the top of the head. It is found where the pineal gland is, and it supervises the upper brain and right eye. It is through this chakra that one reaches Godhead. It is observed as the colour violet, or as a white light, which is the combination of all colours.

Another view point:

Locked by: Discontent and taking life for granted

Unlocked by: Gratitude

Thought 2

Was reading an article on MS Subbulakshmi’s musical renditions of Meerabai.

The author Sudhamahi Regunathan says that an art is an offering to the Almighty and is an exercise in spirituality. In fact God becomes the Supreme Lover  and a the artist becomes a devotee seeking to merge with Him. A spiritual song must come from the heart, carry the listener to a transcendent plane of consciousness and make the experiencing and the experiencer merge in a burst of delight.

Spiritual art conveys serenity.

The author states that Art takes the form of the human body and every aspect of it becomes reference points in art.

In music for example:

Sa or sadja becomes the soul.

Ri or Rishabha the head

Ga or Gandhara the arms

Madhyama the chest

Panchama the throat

Dhaivat the lips

Nishada the feet.

Each of the notes emanated from the 7 Chakras in the body.

Each note is associated with a color according to the vibration they create.

Their permutations and combinations create ragas which have the capacity to evoke different emotions. And then the spaces between the notes, the cycle of repetition of the notes, are measured in tala-the same term used for measurement of the human body in sculpture.

I read fascinating information on Aum.

When I asked for permission to reproduce it.

I got the following reply:

Dear Shakun,

Let the knowledge spread. Let humans understand the subtle world and its influence on mind and evolution.

Credits has to go to all the ancient sages and seers who first found it.

But to this small mind this frequency relation struck and thus I have established a link between the old science and modern science.

My research continues, with all your blessings

Follows the fascinating information:

The Nadha Brahmam  “Ohm” or in Modern terminology Schumman resonance has a close significance Aum corresponds to the strongest of the schuman resonance among all other bio magnetic fields. We can relate the seven different chakras in body to these sounds and also with Schumann Resonances of earth, ie,  7.83, 14, 20, 26, 33, 39 and 45 Hertz of earth. We all know 7.83 hz
being the strongest of all.

Ohm – 7.83Hz
Gam – 14hz
Hleem – 20Hz
Hreem – 26Hz
Kleem – 33Hz
Krowm – 39Hz
Sreem – 45Hz

Raam- is also a Beejaksharam, who resonance frequency lies between 26 to 33

Remember its all vibration, E = M * C^2  the energy emitted is square of the vibration of mantra you use.

You can raise the Kundalini with constant practice. May be the initiated Brahmin one day realises that ENERGY is everything. Brahman is Everything which has taken different forms of life.

OHM is interspersed in all mantras for important reasons. When you chant “OHM” all the seven energy centers in human body get refreshed .

Life has energy centers and they all vibrate at different frequencies.

If in a human body all the seven centers vibrate in their own plane,
radiating energy in all directions, then its is not a channelized way of
utilizing the energy.

We need to channelize them. So that we may be able to use them
for a better purpose.

Every mantra has a specific frequency and only by uttering “OHM” one can make all his/her energy centers to vibrate with the mantra.

By concentrating thus one can accelerate ones evolution on earth
as humans, and move on to next levels.

Breath or the Prana or the Chi or Qi is the vital force that connects the body with mind/soul.
Without Prana,  mind and soul can not interact with the body.

The mind needs to:

1) Repeatedly chant/meditate on a Mantra, 2) Control of the Prana.

At this stage one can realize the subtle systems in the human body…

The Mind has to evolve to reach this state. It is the eligibility for getting into the world of subtle energies.

The Devanagari script or any other script is a kind of representation widely spread and followed faithfully.

These symbols and scriptures are just to help society understand.

All scripts hold same power of OHM.

Some more information (M N Kundu)

Om as the sound symbol of the Absolute is called anahata, which means the uncreated word vibration not produced on account of any friction while all other vibrations are produced on account of friction. It is self created, a total field of energy, neither blind, nor mechanical but profoundly intelligent…

The archeypical mantra of Tibet, ‘Om mani padme hum’ was the first Buddhist text to come to Tibet…In Tibet all those who are religiously minded constantly chant it for attunement with cosmic vibration.

Anup Taneja writes:

The five lettered Mantra Om Namah Shivaya

The five syllablesof this Mantra na, ma shi, va, ya are beej aksharas or seed-letters of the five elements of creation; earth, water, fire, air and ether. Flesh represents the earth, blood represents water; the body heat that helps in digesting food represents fire; the prana or life giving force represents air; and the mind represents ether.

Constant repetition of these holy syllables, either verbally or mentally generates powerful spiritual vibrations that render the mind pure and one pointed directing it inwards, heaing ultimately to the awakening of the kundalini, the spiritual energy that lies dormant at the base of the spine, the muladhar, in each individual.

While practicing mantra sadhana, the seeker sits on a woolen blanket.(Shivji sits on animal skin)  The reason being that the vibrations generated through repetition of holy syllables tend to get dispersed if one sits on a bare floor or wooden plank…

SANSKRIT

Sanskrit believes that the sound of the word never gets ruined and that it has an everlasting value.

Words in Sanskrit open out from their seed (beej) form.

A root is always a single syllable that contains one of the basic sounds a, I, u, ri

The root or seed may create a word, yet the word will vibrate to its best, and gives it tremendous power.

The Vedic or the Sanskrit view gives more importance to the special sound it should produce, than to the meaning of the spoken word.
