My image of the Hare Rama and the Hare Krishna people had been that of the youth chanting and dancing and insisting that we buy their literature. I was in for a pleasant surprise. My first ‘change of opinion’ happened when we (Mr Ram Maheshwary, Ms Maya Shahani, Ms Zeenat Shaukat Ali and Ms Prema met His Highness Sri Radhanathji Maharaj at the Sri Sri Radha Gopinath Mandir at 7 K.M. Munshi Marg, Chowpatty Mumbai.
What an enchanting temple and what a beautiful man! Sri Radha Nathji was born in Chicago, in an affluent Jewish family in 1950. He left home at the age of 17 in quest of God. We asked him if we were on the right path by choosing especially women to be the route to take the world towards Peace and Prosperity? H.H. Radhanathji Maharaj shared a lot of gems, I present some:
No one is a man or a woman…we are all Aatman
Yet women have a natural sensitivity…compassion…
Sadly females are suppressing their natural qualities…
Men have to be educated too…
The biggest reason for divorce is the suppression of women by men…
India is a country of extremes…It is in India that a woman is worshipped…and
yet so grossly mistreated…
Probable conclusion:
Men must respect the spirit of compassion…
Every person should have a harmonious balance between male and female energies…
Last evening we met Sri RadhaKrishnaDas and we were in for another session of ‘Getting suitably impressed’ at the achievements of Iskcon.
When Mr Ram Maheshwary and myself spoke on the influence of Television. RadhaKrishna Dasji stated that when one offers something ‘higher’ the lower drops out. He says that most of the Iskcon students do not watch television out of their own choice!!! I must say that I have to believe what he stated as I attended a Spiritual session in their Temple, which was filled to capacity at the time that the India Pakistan match was going on…
I also attended an Iskcon chant and lecture session at the Birla House. The atmosphere was charged. I also swayed to the chant…hmmm it was Heavenly! I am reminded of what Guru Nanak stated: Kaliyuga keval Naam aadhaara…
Iskcon provides Yoga retreats for the youth…and so many more wonderful activities that I feel like dancing to the accompaniment of:
